100 Day ChallengeDay 3 / 100

Snake Lead Magnet

Built by @eric

A Browser Game That Captures Emails

A 90-second browser Snake game that gates the leaderboard behind an email capture.

Your next lead magnet is a game. I built a modern Snake game that captures emails. Just a prompt and a visual editor.

Marketing teams have been shipping the same gated PDF since 2020 and watching opt-in rates collapse. This day swaps the ebook for a Snake game everyone already knows how to play. Visitors land, play one round, then hit an email gate to save their score and unlock the leaderboard. Completion rates beat any whitepaper because the entire experience fits inside the attention span of a single browser tab.

Behind the build

Watch how this game went from prompt to playable.

Every day of the challenge is documented on social — the scratch prompt, the first broken build, the tuning pass that made it feel right. No edits, no polish reel.

What it does

  • Email gate after the first game-over screen, before leaderboard reveal
  • Direct list sync with Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, ConvertKit, and Marketo
  • UTM and referrer pass-through into your CRM contact record
  • Meta, Google, and TikTok pixels fire on play-start, game-over, and email submit
  • One-line embed on any landing page, blog sidebar, or thank-you page

Why have a game

Lead magnet ROI is dying because nobody finishes a 40-page PDF and everyone knows the ebook will sit unread in a Downloads folder. A playable asset flips the trade: visitors give you 90 seconds of attention, and in exchange you get an email tied to a moment of dopamine instead of a moment of regret. Snake is the safest possible choice because every buyer over the age of twelve already knows the rules, which means zero onboarding friction and zero drop-off before the email gate. CraftMyGame ships this kind of branded arcade asset in a single afternoon of self-serve work, or two weeks done-for-you, instead of the quarter-long sprint a custom HTML5 build used to require.

Where to deploy this

  • Homepage heroReplace the ebook download CTA with a "Play to subscribe" button
  • Exit-intent popupOffer the game in place of the standard 10%-off coupon modal
  • Meta and TikTok ad destinationSend paid traffic to a dedicated game landing page instead of a PDF gate
  • Newsletter footerWeekly leaderboard reset with a "beat last week's top score" prompt
  • Trade show booth iPadHigh-score contest with badge-scan email capture for MQL handoff
  • Blog sidebarPersistent widget on every post, double-opt-in into the main drip sequence

Make it yours

  • 01Reskin the snake as your product (a Liquid Death can, a Notion block, a delivery van) using CraftMyGame's asset generator
  • 02Swap the playfield background for a branded grid in the visual editor and drop in your own logo as the food pellet
  • 03Theme the game-over screen with your brand colors and CTA copy without touching code

Frequently asked questions

Won't a game attract low-intent emails compared to a gated whitepaper?
A whitepaper download signals research intent but converts at 2-5% of landing page traffic. A 90-second game converts 15-25% because the friction is a play, not a form, and the email is requested after the dopamine hit. Tag the leads with a "game" source field in HubSpot or Salesforce and route them into a lighter top-of-funnel drip sequence instead of a sales-ready cadence.
How do I reskin the snake and pellet to match my brand without a developer?
Open the game in CraftMyGame's visual editor, select the snake sprite, and either upload your own art or prompt the asset generator for a branded version (for example, "a stack of pancakes in our brand orange"). Swap the pellet, background, and game-over copy the same way. The whole reskin takes under an hour and never touches code.
How fast can a done-for-you custom version ship if I email sales?
Email [email protected] with your brand assets and target launch date. A custom build with bespoke sprites, your CRM integration wired up, and pixel events mapped to your funnel ships in roughly two weeks. Self-serve in the visual editor is same-day if you already have brand art on hand.
